YWCA Greater Los Angeles honored women around the globe, who helped during the pandemic

Sharmaine Johnson

Yesterday was all about honoring and acknowledging the strong women who have helped us survive this pandemic. YWCA Greater Los Angeles, Amazon, Toyota, and Hammond Entertainment hosted L.A’s largest event to date that honored first responders and essential workers who continue to serve on the front lines during the coronavirus pandemic.

Essential roles from healthcare to retail workers, educators, transportation drivers, food service, and utility were honored by the YWCA at the 2022 Phenomenal Woman Award Celebration and Concert that popped off at the SoFi Stadium Youtube Theater. Cedric The Entertainer and Salli Richardson hosted the evening and enjoyed performances from Chante Moore, Robin Thicke, Mike Phillips, MC LYTE, and Nelly.

President and CEO Faye Washington gave a heartfelt statement “As we emerge from the dawn, I reflected over the past two years I knew as the President and CEO a moment such as this was precious. It’s time to reflect on all the goodness the YWCA Greater Los Angeles witnessed as a collective community recognizing the women First Responders and Essential Workers of Los Angeles. These women selflessly put themselves on the front lines of the pandemic and for that, we say Thank You”. As an essential worker, I honestly felt honored to be in the room, and for the first time, I felt like my role mattered. Thank you to the YWCA for showing your love and appreciation.

Before the event, you know we had to hit the pink carpet and do our thing. We spilled the tea with Tiffany Haddish, Nelly, Kiki Shepard, and Joe Torry!
