Washington spoils the Birds' chances of being a number one seed in the NFC 36-33
The halftime score read 21 -14 in favor of the Philadelphia Eagles, but that was soon to change. Philadelphia starting quarterback, Jalen Hurts, had been sidelined on a touchdown drive in the 1st quarter due to concussion protocol and would not return. Kenny Pickett would step in for Philadelphia to complete 14 of 24 passes for 143 passing yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. As much as the spotlight was on the loss of Jalen Hurts, the Commanders made a statement offensively with their own quarterback position. Rookie Jayden Daniels played up to a 99.1 quarterback rating and was decisive on 24 of 39 completions with 258 passing yards and 5 touchdowns. Daniels did throw 2 interceptions and that will be the learning curve for him as he develops more into a starter in the NFL. Jayden did add 81 rushing yards that were crucial to several first down conversions.
The Eagles did throw an interception early in the game in addition to a fumble lost late in the game to seal the victory for the Commanders that improved to a 10-5 record. The Commanders are on the cusp of the playoffs with a record that can very well hold up to ensure a Wild Card berth with two games coming up against the Falcons in Washington and ending the regular season in Dallas versus the Cowboys. With the loss, the Eagles now slide to the number 3 seed in the NFC sliding behind Minnesota and conference leader Detroit Lions. Philadelphia will look to bounce back next Sunday hosting their rival Dallas Cowboys before ending the regular season against the New York Giants at home. Further tests will be done in the coming hours and days to report on Jalen Hurts future status for the upcoming week and season.
