U.S. Women’s Volleyball defeats Serbia to win first match in Paris Olympics 2024
An opening match loss against China in Pool A had the U.S. Women’s Volleyball team searching for answers after the loss. It was crucial to bounce back to play well against Serbia that captured a win against the host country France in their Paris Olympics debut. In what was a five-set gauntlet, USA defeated Serbia 3 sets to 2. USA took a 2-set lead 25- 17, and 25 - 20 lead to start the match, but Serbia should resiliency winning the third set 25- 20 and tying the match after winning the fourth set 25 - 14.
The U.S. attack was led by Avery Skinner, Jordan Thompson, Andrea Drews, and Chika Ogbogu. A decisive fifth set was dominated by the U.S. serve In-play that saw the Americans continue to attack off of great sets and earn points every time Serbia closed the scoring gaps. USA took the fifth set 17 to 15 and now moved to a 1-1 record in Pool A play. Up next will be a challenging match against France on Saturday, August 4th to see if USA can win pool A.
