U.S. Women’s Soccer team advances to semifinals with extra time win over Japan 1 to 0
In the 105th+ minute in the first extra time, Trinity Rodman took a player one on one on the right side of the box. Crystal Dunn played a through pass that would prove to be the game winning assist for the U.S. women’s Olympic qualification to the semifinal. Japan played with intensity the entire game, matching 12 shots on target to the Americans 15 shots. Despite a high volume of shots, Japan was only able to shoot once on target. USA possessed the ball 71% of the game and played outstanding defense only allowing 1 shot on goal, a total of 6 blocked shots and 2 fouls committed. Trinity Rodman, at the age of 22, is the youngest U.S. women’s player to ever score in a knockout stage in Olympic history.
