Tyson Fury dominates Derek Chisora to set up mega fight with Oleksandr Usyk
Lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury took the ring Saturday to defend his belt against longtime rival Derek Chisora live from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London England. Today’s match marked the third time these two men took the ring with Fury dominating each time. Chisora has always been known for his toughness which was on full display. However, toughness didn’t stop Chisora from getting pummeled. Fury connected on 205 punches, more than double of Chisora’s output. In 7 of 10 rounds, Fury landed 50% more of his power shots. In reality Chisora was just a tune-up for Fury, who is in talks to meet Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship in springtime in Saudi Arabia.
The unified heavyweight champion from Ukraine was ringside and immediately jumped up on the ring apron after Fury called him out. "You're next you little b----," Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) said as he stood face-to-face with Usyk. Fury then mocked Usyk's two victories over Anthony Joshua, whom he called a "bodybuilder." "Well, I'm no bodybuilder you sucker," he said. "You ugly little man. Let's get it on!"
Fury is in a race with history; if he defeats Usyk, he’d become the first unified heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis. One hurdle does come into play as the world awaits one of the biggest fights in the history of the sport. Fury admitted he fought Chisora with an injury. Fury said he will require surgery on his right elbow that will sideline him for six to eight weeks. He previously underwent surgery on his left elbow to remove bone spurs following an 11th-round KO of Deontay Wilder last October in a trilogy fight. Fury also said he suffered a right-hand injury on Saturday.
After Fury’s surgery, Fury isn’t short of marquee fights. If a deal can't be finalized to face Usyk, Fury said he would turn to Joe Joyce, the heavyweight contender who was also ringside. "I think Joe Joyce is the tougher man, Usyk has better skills," Fury said. “Usyk is a master boxer. All these big fights have waited for so long, but they can't run away anymore. They can run but they can't hide!"
