Too many turnovers haunted the Tigers in a loss to South Carolina

Brandon Harley

LSU has lost to the Gamecocks 17 straight times and 5 in a row since Kim Mulkey took over as coach.   The scheduled Thursday night prime-time showdown was postponed as a result of a winter storm, but there was still plenty of drama between both champions as usual despite the postponement.

The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated fifth-ranked LSU 66-56 on Friday night to end their undefeated season. Joyce Edwards led the way with 14 points, while Sania Feagin added 12 points and seven rebounds.

LSU's Aneesah Morrow had 15 points and 16 rebounds, while Flau'jae Johnson added 13 points.

With the win, the Gamecocks improved to 12-0 on the season.   With the loss, LSU fell to 11-1.  The Gamecocks will face Tennessee on Sunday. The Tigers' loss leaves No. 1 UCLA, the only team to beat South Carolina this season, is the country's only remaining unbeaten team. South Carolina has won 69 straight at home and 54 in a row in SEC regular-season games.

South Carolina's winning strategies included a strong defensive effort, limiting LSU's scoring opportunities and forcing turnovers. With 13 steals and 11 blocks, their ability to control the pace of the game allowed them to capitalize on fast breaks and transition plays. Additionally, the Gamecocks' depth and balanced scoring, with contributions from multiple players, kept LSU's defense on its toes.
