The Panthers' upcoming dynamic duo of Bryce Young and Xavier Legette could be dangerous.
If I told you there is a WR who is 6-foot-3 and ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the Combine, you would think I was talking about a character created in an EA Sports football video game. Because of the combination of size and speed, he is a very rare player, but guess what? A new golden goose has been discovered for the Panthers at the University of South Carolina. His name is Xavier Legette.
There was a time, a year ago, when Bryce Young, the number one pick in the NFL draft, had just one reliable target to throw the ball to, 32-year-old Adam Thielen. As of this season, Young has two more weapons at his disposal in Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette. As a rookie, is it possible, though, for Legette to emerge as the number one wide receiver in the league? The answer to that question would normally be a no. But in this situation, it's realistic. Thielen is another year older but reliable and Johnson has had issues with dropping passes throughout his career. Hopefully he fixes that in Carolina because he has so much potential.
With adding much needed help on the offensive line with big maulers Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis, the merry-go-round of guards protecting Young is over. Hunt and Lewis form an interior wall that should allow Young, the top pick of the 2023 draft, to perform in ways he never could this past season.
By adding Legette with other weapons and the Oline help, the Panthers can be contenders for that NFC South title.
