The Eagles blow a 17 point lead to be defeated by the Washington Football Team 27-17
Philadelphia- The Philadelphia Eagles had a second half meltdown, as the Washington Football Team scored 27 unanswered points to pull out the victory.
In the first half, the Eagles struck gold first in the first quarter, as Carson Wentz and Zack Ertz hook up for a five-yard touchdown catch in the back of the endzone. The Eagles took a 7-0 lead early in the first. Before the end of the quarter, Wentz hooked up with wide receiver Jalen Reagor for a 55- yard bomb that resulted in a field goal for the Eagles, 10-0. It seemed like Washington did not have an answer for the Eagles' wide receivers and everything was going good for Philadelphia. The Eagles scored their third touchdown as Wentz hooked up with Dallas Goedert to put up Eagles up 17-0. Before the end of the half, Washington finally got on the board, as Dwayne Haskins threw a touchdown pass to Logan Thomas to cut the lead down to ten, 17-7.
On the first drive in the second half, Wentz tried to throw a screen pass to John Hightower but was picked off by Jimmy Moreland. Washington took advantage of the turnover and scored a touchdown, to creep back into the game, 17-14. Let's take it to the fourth quarter when the game got pretty intense and interesting. Washington just scored a field goal to tie the game, 17-17. The Football Team's defense was making life difficult for the Eagles, as they sacked Wentz eight times. Washington took the lead, as Peyton Barber scored on a four-yard touchdown run to make it 24-17. Washington tacked on a field goal to make it 27-17 to get their first victory of the season.
Wentz finished the game 24 of 42 for 270 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
