The Chicago Bears stole the spotlight in Day 1 of the NFL Draft
Cleveland- The Chicago Bears were very aggressive with going after a Quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft.
The Bears saw that Justin Fields was still on the board early on and decided to make a deal with the New York Giants with the 11th pick. The Giants agreed to the deal and will receive the Bears' first round pick (20th), and fifth round picks this year, as well as the Bears first pick and fourth rounders next year.
The move shocked everyone around the globe, because the Bears just signed NFL veteran Andy Dalton to a one year, $10M deal during this years' free agency and have Nick Foles in the mix out there.
Chicago felt like Fields was everything that they wanted in a quarterback. He has shown time in and time out that he can handle the big moments, can be very vocal at times, let his work ethic speak louder than his words, and the way he can sling the ball down the field accurately to his wide receivers. After Fields' name was called the Bears' general manager had this to say about the pick.
"We had multiple plans tonight, and the way the board was falling, we got excited when the quarterbacks came off that way and Justin continued to fall," Bears general manager Ryan Pace said. "For us, it was just executing our plan at the right spot in the draft and being patient with that, which sometimes can be difficult.
With Fields being the center of attention in Chicago, the sky is the limit for him and that organization. It will be interesting to see who will earn the starter position this year. Look out for Chicago to contend this season.
