The Celtics start off the season in a historical manner
The Boston Celtics celebrated their 2023-2024 NBA Championship with custom rings and the franchise’s 18th NBA World Championship. The Boston crowd brought electricity throughout the arena early in the game that jump started the Celtics to a 43 to 24 1st quarter lead. All five of the Celtics starters ended the night in double figures with Jayson Tatum leading Boston with 37 points on 8 of 11 three point makes.
The Celtics held the Knicks to 36.7% from three-point range and created 12 turnovers that led to 11 fast break points. Boston held a 35-point lead at one point in the game due in major part to the Celtics tying an NBA record with 29 three-pointers in a single game. Boston had contributions from Horford (11 points), Jaylen Brown (23 points), Derrick White (24 points), Jrue Holiday (18 points) and Sam Hauser (10 points).
The New York Knicks started the season with a revamped lineup with new players like Mikal Bridges ending with 16 points but struggled early and ended the game shooting 2 for 7 on three-point shots. Jalen Brunson was only able to drain one three-point shot but scored 22 points on 9 of 14 shots in 25 minutes. Boston travels to Washington to play the Wizards on Thursday night, and New York looks to bounce back in the home opener at Madison Square Garden on Friday night against the Indiana Pacers.
