Team USA suffers a second half meltdown in a loss to Australia 70-67
Vegas- Team USA was defeated by Australia 70-67.
In their first exhibition match against Australia, Team USA's Woman's basketball team got out to a quick start. Team USA went straight into their post play offense with their three headed monsters. Brittney Griner, Aja Wilson, and Breanna Stewart impacted the first quarter with a couple of clean blocks and got into a shooting rhythm on the offensive side of the floor. Each of these players combined for eight points in the quarter. Team USA put on a scoring clinic in the second, as Sue Bird and crew hit some shots to push their lead to double figures at the half.
Early in the second half, Team USA kept their foot on the pedal. With great passing and getting to their spots on the floor. Despite having a big lead, Team USA had five turnovers, which sparked a 12-4 run for Australia. At the start of the fourth, Team USA was clinging onto a five-part lead.
At the five minute mark of the fourth, Team USA was looking to cut Australia's lead to a one possession game. Team USA went on a two minute drought and was looking distraught with trying to find some type of spark to get their offense going. Stewart hit a big bucket going into the two minute mark of the game. Team USA had six possessions down the stretch and could not hit the shots they needed in order to cut down Australia's lead. Team USA went on to lose their first exhibition match.
