Sydney McLaughlin breaks record in 400 hurdles
Updated: Jun 30, 2021
New York- At the U.S. Olympic trials on Sunday, Sydney McLaughlin showed the world that "Black Girl Magic" was real.
With Dalilah Muhammad being the favorite to win the 400 hurdles, McLaughlin knew she had to run a near to perfect race to win. As the gun sounded off and McLaughlin in the sixth lane, McLaughlin had to make a little ground up, as Muhammad was very aggressive at the start of the race. McLaughlin turned on the jets with under 100 meters to go and just outran Muhammad as she crossed the finish line with a time of 51.90.
McLaughlin's time was the fastest time ever for a woman at an Olympic trial and she had this to say about it.“It’s one of those moments you think about and dream about and play in your head that you’ll put it together."
