South Carolina looked good in opening exhibition match

In Tuesday night's game against Memphis, we got our first look at the 2024-25 Gamecocks as they won 106-63 in an exhibition game.

Putting up a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds in her first game as a Gamecock freshman, Joyce Edwards showed why she was ESPN HoopGurlz's No. 3 high school recruit in the nation. 6'3" Camden High School standout shot 6-of-ll from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. She did this while playing for 18 minutes.

Edwards teamed up with Te-Hina Paopao early for the Gamecocks, who built a 50-32 lead at the half and never looked back. Paopao added 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Chloe Kitty also had big numbers for South Carolina, tallying 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Gamecocks dominated rebounding 58-25. And led by 45 points at one time.

The super sophomore MiLaysia Fulwiley left the court during the Gamecocks' exhibition game Tuesday night against Memphis, with an ankle injury. Fulwiley landed awkwardly while running back on defense late in the third quarter, causing her foot to roll. She had trouble walking. She returned to the bench and sat with her team for the rest of the game. Fulwiley had 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting. The team is looking to repeat so hopefully the ankle isn't too severe. And the team is waiting to hear what will happen with defensive ancor Ashlyn Watkins who was suspended back in August for an off-the-court incident.
