South Carolina hangs tough in scrappy win over Duke

No. 3 South Carolina held off a late charge from No. 8 Duke for an 81-70 victory Thursday night in the SEC/ACC Challenge as Chloe Kitts tied her career high with 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds. It was South Carolina's 62nd straight win at home.

They also received solid contributions from Sania Feagin and Te-Hina Paopao, who each contributed 11 points to the team's effort.   Standout sophomore MiLaysia Fulwiley was extremely quiet in the win, playing 15 minutes and scoring just 3 points.

A 25-point lead was built by South Carolina in the second half, but the Blue Devils trimmed it to just 71-63 with 6:10 left in the game.   Kitts followed with a basket inside and a three-point play, restoring the duke lead back to double digits, and the Blue Devils were not able to close the gap any further.

Tania Mair and Delaney Thomas had 14 points apiece to lead Duke.

Chloe Kitts played a crucial role in securing the victory for South Carolina with her impressive performance. Her 21 points and 11 rebounds not only tied her career high but also provided the team with much-needed stability, especially during Duke's late surge. Kitts's ability to score key baskets and maintain composure under pressure was instrumental in keeping South Carolina ahead and sealing their 62nd consecutive home win.

When asked about Kitt's performance,  Te-Hina Paopao said, “She was hot."   “That’s what it was.  Gotta feed the hot hand."
