Kicking off the new college playoff format was SMU and Penn State in the early game on Saturday. There was a lot of people skeptical with SMU getting the last playoff spot than Alabama, because they felt like they would not be a competitive team against the top dogs in the playoffs. Wel, they might have had a point. The game was over before the bars had their regular customers come in at 1 PM

Maybe, it was the nerves, but their explosive and young QB in Kevin Jennings was not the same QB that people feared playing against. He opened up the first quarter, throwing a pick 6 and never gained his confidence after the interception. He finished the game 20 out 0f 36 for 195 yards, 1 touchdown and three picks.

On the defensive side of the ball, they could not keep up with Penn State's offense. The Nifty Lions roared their way to a 38-10 victory. Despite the loss, SMU was proud of their accomplishments that they had this type of season when nobody had them going this far.
