Sky survives late comeback from the Wings to advance to the next round 81-64
Chicago- The Sky gains composure late in the second half to escape with a win over the Dallas Wings.
On Thursday, it marked the first day of the WNBA playoffs. The first game featured the Chicago Sky playing a scrappy Dallas Wings team and the night cap was the New York Liberty who faced the Phoenix Mercury.
Let's start with the tale of the first game. Chicago and the Wings game was pretty entertaining and had a fast-paced type of feel to it at the start of the first half until the Sky hit that let's run button . Candace Parker and Kahleah Copper put on an offensive clinic in the first quarter and helped their team go on 10-0 run to build a double-digit lead. Cooper and Parker combined for 10 points in the quarter.
The Sky was locked in defensively the second quarter. They were diving after lose balls, communicating on switches, active with getting into the passing lanes, and forcing the Wings to heave up desperation shots. Chicago allowed a late Wings run, but pushed their lead to 14 at the half, 44-29.
Things got interested in the second half. Chicago had a sloppy third quarter with mistakes and was stale on the defensive end. They allowed the Wings to get themselves back in the game and cut their lead to six at one point in the quarter. At the end of the third, the Sky was clinging onto a five point lead. In the fourth, the Sky went back to their break and butter with high pick and roll and pick and pop plays to get easy buckets. Chicago went on a 10-2 run late to close out the comeback and escape with a victory.
