Sky shocks Liberty
The Chicago Sky beat the New York Liberty 90-81 on Thursday night with Marina Mabrey scoring 21 points, dishing out seven assists, and grabbing six rebounds in a great performance. Angel Reese contributed 13 points and nine rebounds to the Sky's victory. Despite Isabelle Harrison, Diamond DeShields and Kamilla Cardoso not being available for the Sky, it was a big win for them against a very strong Liberty team. Coach Weatherspoon said she expects DeShields and Cardoso back soon.
Among the Liberty's players in double figures were Sabrina Ionescu with 19 points and Breanna Stewart with 18 points and 10 rebounds. For New York, the only other player with double figures was Courtney Vandersloot.
New York trailed by double digits in the third quarter before Stewart rallied them to take a brief lead. It was 68-67 with New York leading early in the fourth quarter. However, on the following spurt by Mabrey and Reese, Chicago took an 86-75 lead with a 19-7 run. Reese then had a three-point play with 2:18 left that put the game away.
Chicago Sky will play their first home game of the season on Saturday when they host Connecticut. There is no doubt that if they get healthy, this could be an exciting team to watch.
