Recap of Day 1 of Clemson's Spring Training

Right before Clemson's first practice of the spring, Tigers coach Dabo Swinney had a lot to say about the upcoming season. He came in with a lot of energy and a positive attitude. He emphasized the importance of building strong team chemistry and focusing on fundamentals to ensure success. Swinney also highlighted the potential of the new recruits and the returning players, expressing confidence in their ability to contribute significantly. Additionally, he stressed the need for consistency and hard work throughout the season to meet their championship goals.
This offseason, Clemson led the country in roster retention after a 10-4-year, ACC title, and College Football Playoff appearance. On offense and defense, the Tigers returned eight starters apiece and lost zero starters to the portal.
Although other schools have been canceling or restructuring spring games, Clemson's annual spring game in Memorial Stadium remains unchanged. The 2025 Orange and White Spring Game remains on as scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5. It will be open to the public and the media, Swinney told reporters. The spring game, according to Swinney, is an essential proving ground for true freshmen and younger players who need more reps. It is also the only true game-like environment that players are exposed to before the regular season begins. “You don’t get better football if you don’t play football,” Swinney said.
During the first seven and a half periods of practice, media members were allowed to observe. Cade Klubnik looked commanding and ready for a Heisman run. His throws were accurate, hitting targets in stride and dropping back-shoulder fades in perfect rhythm. I'm impressed with Gideon Davidson's athleticism, as he demonstrated effective hands-on passes out of the backfield and hustled through drills. He could be special.
