Rams defeat Chargers 13-9

Fresh off Aaron Donald’s pep talk, the Rams Defense seemingly came out fired up, yielding only three FGs, and coming up with two key takeaways on their way to a 13 – 9 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Stetson Bennett played the entire game as Rams QB, this time under the guidance of Rams Assistant Coach Aubrey Pleasant, who took the helm as Coach McVay sat this one out.  Coach McVay believes in giving his coaching staff opportunities, as stated in his post-game press conference.  Bennett was 17/31, 213 yards, 1 TD, 1, INT.  Bennett’s performance was pedestrian, however, he did light it up, as he threw a 47-yard TD bomb to WR JJ Laap.  Jordan Whittington was once again Bennett’s top target.  He caught 5 of his 8 targets for 52 yards, and a 24 yarder as his longest reception of the day.  Whittington continues to shine this pre-season as his average per catch remains in double figures, 11.5 YPC to be exact.  Zach Evans got most of the carries -V-LAC, as he rushed for 62 yards on 16 carries, with a long of 9 yds.  The Rams took a good long look at Evans, as he was able to pick his way through the Charger Defense and make a case for making the Rams 53-man roster.  Boston Scott also made a strong case for himself earning an RB spot on this Ram’s Roster.  Scott ran for 55 yds on just 10 carries.  He sealed the game for the Rams on a 34-yard scamper, late in the 4th quarter.  Scott’s game breaking performances should solidify a roster spot for him.

The Rams next test will be against the Houston Texans.  Houston is an up-and-coming team in the NFL, but as we approach the cut deadline and Rosters being cut down to 53 players by August 27th.  Expect to see players putting it all on the line to make their prospective squads.  This will be an exhibition of players showcasing their talents and trying to lockdown an NFL Roster spot.
