RAMS BATTLE TO STAY IN CONTENTION AS INJURY BUG HITS EARLY
The Rams remained competitive although coming into the season with a decimated O/L. Jonah Jackson has not practiced in team drills since early in camp because of a shoulder injury. Right tackle Rob Havenstein has been sidelined because of an ankle injury. Zach Thomas has worked at left guard, and Noteboom and McClendon at right tackle. Alaric Jackson, starting left tackle, is suspended for the first two games of the season. The situation didn’t get any better as Left Guard Steve Avilla suffered an MCL Sprain in Sunday night’s loss to Detroit. Avila, second year Pro, started every game as a Rookie for the Rams last year. At the very least, Avila will likely miss a couple of games, but if it’s a Grade 3 sprain, he could be out as long as 6 weeks. When Avila went down, the Rams moved Jonah Jackson to Left Guard and inserted rookie Beaux Limmer at the Center after Avila’s departure.
Despite devastating injuries to the Offensive Line, Puka Nacua heading to the IR, and a hobbled Matt Stafford, Los Angeles was able to take a 20 – 17 lead late in the 4th quarter, forcing Detroit to kick a late FG to tie the game at 20, sending the contest to OT. The Rams Offense didn’t see the ball as Detroit received the OT Kickoff and drove down field on an exhausted Los Angeles Rams Defense to win the game. The Rams will head to Arizona next week to take on their NFC West Divisional Foes, The Arizona Cardinals.
