PBS Unveils 2025 Black History Month Lineup Highlighting Legacy and Heritage

PBS proudly announces its 2025 Black History Month lineup, celebrating the rich legacy and diverse narratives that highlight Black experiences across generations. This year’s programming will include a mix of groundbreaking documentaries, heartwarming family stories, and engaging digital content, all designed to educate, inspire, and honor Black culture.

Key Highlights of the 2025 Lineup

The centerpiece of PBS's offerings will be a brand-new season of FINDING YOUR ROOTS, hosted by renowned scholar Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. In a personal twist, Dr. Gates will trace his own lineage alongside guests such as actors Laurence Fishburne and Sheryl Lee Ralph, poet Rita Dove, and historian Lonnie Bunch. This season promises to unveil hidden family secrets and the fascinating stories behind their ancestries.

Dr. Gates also leads the four-hour series GREAT MIGRATIONS: A PEOPLE ON THE MOVE, which explores how Black migration has shaped American culture and society. From historical movements of African Americans to the North, to more recent waves of immigrants from Africa and the Caribbean, this series highlights the pivotal role of migration in the Black experience.

Family-Friendly Programming on PBS KIDS

PBS KIDS will premiere four new episodes of LYLA IN THE LOOP on February 3, featuring stories that celebrate Jamaican culture and recognize prominent Black inventors. The episodes will engage young viewers with themes of creativity, problem-solving, and cultural appreciation. Additionally, new episodes of XAVIER RIDDLE AND THE SECRET MUSEUM will spotlight figures like Willard Wigan and Jackie Robinson, helping children learn about influential personalities through engaging storytelling.

“We’re excited to showcase these stories from LYLA IN THE LOOP and XAVIER RIDDLE, knowing families across the country will love them,” said Sara DeWitt, Senior Vice President and General Manager of PBS KIDS.
