New York is on the brink of returning to the WNBA Finals

Breanna Stewart had her fun Sunday then Sabrina Ionescu said it's my turn. She scored 24 points, and the New York Liberty beat the Las Vegas Aces 88-84 on Tuesday night to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five semifinal series.

The two-time defending champion Aces will try to avoid being knocked out by the team they defeated in the WNBA Finals last year in Game 3 on Friday night in Las Vegas. In WNBA postseason history, no team has overcome a 2-0 deficit to win a best-of-five series. In 2018, only Phoenix forced a Game 5 against the Storm.

The Aces took a 27-22 lead after the first quarter behind a strong performance from Chelsea Gray. Coach Becky Hammon said she would discuss the situation with her star guard after she had only four points in Game 1. As a result of Gray's aggressive play, she scored 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the game. Gray finished with 14 points and 7 assists.

In a closely contested game all night, it came down to the fourth quarter. A key missed free throw from Tiffany Hayes and clutch plays from the Liberty. Ionescu pretty much took the game over scoring seven of the Liberty's final nine points. A'Ja Wilson scored 24 points and Jackie Young added 17 for the Aces. Stewart finished with 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the Liberty.

A total of 929,000 people watched Game 1 on TV. In 22 years, it was the most-watched WNBA semifinal. A huge win for the WNBA.
