Naomi Osaka pulls out a tough win over Garbine Muguruza 4-6, 6-4, 7-5
New York- Naomi Osaka overcame a lot of unforced errors to defeat Garbine Muguruza to advance to the quarterfinals.
Naomi Osaka started the match with two aces against Garbine Muguruza and took the first game. After the first game, Osaka started to really gain her confidence. It looked like she was in full control of the set, but after a couple of unforced errors that confidence started to slip .Osaka could not figure out Muguruza's back spin late in the set and all of a sudden the once confident Osaka looked frustrated. Osaka went on to lose the first set 6-4.
For the first time in the tournament, Osaka had her back against the wall. Osaka looked very out of sync and just did not look like the killer on the court in the second set. Osaka finally dug herself out of a 2-1 hole and got herself back in the game with a couple of cross shots that Muguruza could not get to. Osaka grabbed a 4-3 lead and did not let that lead go. She finished the set 6-4 and forced a third set.
Osaka did a good job with forcing Muguruza to hit her backhand shots that were averaging around 112 mph. Muguruza struggled to return the serves and Osaka was in business with building a 2-1 lead. Osaka held the lead for a little bit, but Muguruza drop shots and her aggressiveness was what put her on top after the fourth game in the set. Osaka fought her way back in the match and tied it at five apiece. Osaka went on to win both games and the set 7-5.
