Naomi Osaka gets bounced in the first round of the US Open

New York- Namoi Osaka was defeated in straight sets by Danielle Collins 7-6, 6-3

After having an up and down season, Naomi Osaka had her work cut out for her in the first round of the US Open, playing 19th seeded Danielle Collins. Patience was the theme in the first set for Osaka against Collins. Instead of being aggressive with her shots, Osaka let Collins make mistakes with being the aggressor. Each time Collins hit a forehand shot that was around 85 MPH, Osaka made her pay. Osaka jumped out to an early 3-0 start, but Collins made the set very interesting. After being down 3-0, Collins won three straight games to tie it up. The set got intense as both players were hitting hard forehand shots and had fans on their edges of their seats. The first set went into a tie breaker with Collins winning 7-6.

Like in the first set, Osaka jumped in front with a lead early on, but Collins once again made it tough for Osaka to build any type of momentum. Osaka was not as crisp as she was in the first set. The power of Collins' spinning backhand was too much for Osaka, but she kept fighting back. When it seemed like Collins was going to run away with the set, Osaka found a way to steal a game. However, a late rally by Osaka was not enough as she lost the set, 6-3.
