Montana State routs Idaho 52 -19 and clinches spot in FCS semifinal

Montana State has been the team to beat all year long in the FCS, and Friday night showed why the Bobcats are a tough team to scout and prepare to play against.  All three phases of football are the Bobcats’ strength in defense, offense, and coaching.  Starting quarterback, Tommy Mellott passed for 174 yards on 12 of 18 completions for 2 passing touchdowns, and 1 rushing touchdown.  Mellott added 131 rushing yards on 14 carries with 1 rushing touchdown as well.

The senior from Butte, MT let the charge for the Bobcats that set a tone that Idaho could not match when it came to intensity or energy.  The Bobcats’ running back, Adam Jones, electrified the home crowd with 4 rushing touchdowns for 95 yards on 23 carries.  Defensively, Montana State created 2 turnovers on defense (1 fumble, and 1 interception) that ultimately was important during key drives that swung momentum towards the side of the Bobcats.  Idaho was held to 2 of 10 on 3rd down conversions and only scored 9 points in the second half compared to Montana State’s 21.  The Bobcats await the winners of the Saturday FCS Quarterfinals results.
