Memphis scraps out a win against the Jazz in Game 1, 112-109
Memphis, TN-Behind Dillon Brooks 31 points, the Grizzles were able to escape with a win against the #1 seed Utah Jazz 112-109.
D-Brooks was unstoppable in the second half. He was taking the Jazz to school and teaching them lessons on the court. Brooks was very aggressive with getting into the lane and finishing off drives, hitting the mid-range shoots, and just plainly out hustling Utah. Brooks hit some clutch shots in the fourth to keep the Grizzles in the lead when Ja Morant was on the bench getting some rest.
After Morant came back into the game, the Grizzles were unstoppable on the defensive side of the ball. Morant scored nine points in the fourth quarter and it looked like the Grizzles were going to run away with the game. However, Memphis had trouble stopping Bojan Bogdanovic', who was hitting threes from Mars to Earth. Memphis tried to give him different looks and put a more physical defender on him, but it did not shake Bogdanovic's confidence. He had 15 points in the fourth quarter.
With .6 seconds left in regulation and Memphis clinging onto a three point lead, the Grizzles held Utah's three point shooters in check, as they stole Game 1.
Brooks finished with 31 points, 2 assists, and 7 rebounds.
