LSU survives late comeback against Tennessee

No. 6 LSU defeated No.  16 Tennessee on Thursday night on a layup by Kailyn Gilbert with 1 second left.  Tennessee's Zee Spearman missed a short jumper that would have sent the game into overtime.  The Lady Vols took their second narrow loss in five days to a top 10 team.

Aneesah Morrow led the Tigers with 23 points and 21 rebounds.   In addition to Gilbert's 22 points, Flau'Jae Johnson had 20 and Mikaylah Williams had 16.

During the second quarter, Tennessee trailed by 18 points with Jewel Spear scoring 25 points and Talaysia Cooper scoring 24.  Ruby Whitehorn and Samara Spencer scored 10 each.

Aneesah Morrow's performance was pivotal in LSU's victory, as she dominated the court with an impressive double-double of 23 points and 21 rebounds. Her efforts on both offense and defense helped the Tigers maintain their lead and secure the win. Morrow's presence in the paint was a key factor in thwarting Tennessee's comeback attempts.

This victory is significant for LSU as it solidifies their standing as a top contender in the league. Defeating a ranked opponent like Tennessee demonstrates the Tigers' ability to perform under pressure and highlights their depth and resilience. Additionally, this win boosts their confidence and momentum as they continue their season, aiming for a strong finish in upcoming games.
