Lions come up short in second half offensive explosion
Fans of the Detroit Lions almost forgot what it was like to lose a football game. This is something that hasn't happened since Week 2 against Tampa Bay. The Buffalo Bills came into Ford Field Sunday and handed Detroit their first loss (48-42) in three months, ending Detroit's streak of 11 straight victories.
Detroit's defense had no answers for Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Allen who is playing at an MVP level this season was elusive all afternoon and beat Detroit with both his arm and his legs. Allen threw for 362 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for two touchdowns as the Bills gashed the Lions' defense for 559 total yards of offense.
While Jared Goff, the Detroit Lions' quarterback, was equally impressive with five touchdown passes, Detroit's offense totaled 521 yards, but that was simply not enough to win the game on Sunday.
Lions' defensive injuries showed up this afternoon as they are missing key pieces. One of their strengths is the running game which was non-existent yesterday. The absence of key defensive players left significant gaps in the Lions' ability to contain Josh Allen and the Bills' dynamic offense. With a depleted defense, Detroit struggled to apply pressure, allowing Allen ample time to exploit their secondary. This lack of defensive depth was a critical factor in the Lions' inability to stop the Bills' relentless attack, ultimately leading to their defeat.
