Kevin Durant breaks Olympic history as Team USA advances to the semifinals
LeBron James assisted on four of the U.S.'s seven shots, and all five U.S. starters made at least one basket. The U.S. jumped to a 16-6 lead four minutes into the first quarter and didn't look back.
Joel Embiid heard the French fans' boos. But it didn't bother him. Embiid scored a team-high 14 points and had seven rebounds as the U.S. led 63-36 at halftime against Brazil. Team USA out rebounded Brazil when it mattered, held Brazil to 42% shooting and relied on its offensive firepower to score. Devin Booker led the U.S. with 18 points, Kevin Durant contributed 11 points, and LeBron James added 12 points, nine assists and three steals and Anthony Edwards added 17 points. The U.S. shot 58% from the field and 48% on 3-pointers.
Coach Steve Kerr hammered home his points of emphasis against team Brazil, which was to defend and rebound, and the rest will take care of itself. He said it, and his players backed him up on their way to a 122-87 victory against Brazil. The team advances to Thursday’s semifinals where it will face Serbia. The winner will play the France-Germany winner for the gold medal.
In the third quarter of Tuesday's game, Kevin Durant passed Lisa Leslie to become the all-time leader in points for Team USA, male or female, in Olympic competition.
