Joyce Edwards could be a problem in the SEC
I know it was just one exhibition game, but let's be honest 19 points and 12 rebounds in 18 minutes is crazy work right?
South Carolina might have found their next superstar with freshman Joyce Edwards. Edwards posted a double-double before halftime and ended with a team-high 19 points, along with 12 rebounds. South Carolina won dominantly, 106-63 over Memphis.
Edwards who is a South Carolina native from Camden, South Carolina had a very successful high school basketball career. She averaged 31.3 PPG, 13.3 RPG, and 4.0 APG in her senior year. She also led Camden to their second consecutive 3A state championship. The 6-foot-3 versatile forward has won several other accolades, including AmeriCup MVP, McDonald’s All-American MVP and U18 FIBA AmeriCup MVP. She was also the 2023-24 national Gatorade Player of the Year. Let's just say that all she does is win.
There is no doubt that Joyce Edwards will be one of the most highly anticipated recruits for the Gamecocks in the women's basketball program since WNBA MVP and superstar A'ja Wilson.
It’s the beginning of the Joyce Edwards era at South Carolina. Despite only being 17 years old, Edwards has a skill set that is so unique, so marketable, and has so much room to grow that she is more than just another talented freshman; she could very well be the next superstar in women's college basketball. But only time will tell
