Jon Jones turns back the clock at UFC 309

UFC’s king has returned to his rightful throne as Jon Jones (28-1) made his triumphant return to the octagon Saturday and delivered a devastating spinning back kick to the body of former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic (20-5).

The near consensus pick for greatest fighter of all time, Jones had absolutely no ring rust. Jones has been out for a year after recovering from a torn pectoral muscle.  The champ picked up where he left off in dominant fashion. Jones got his first knockout win since December 2018. He took Miocic down in the opening round and tormented him with nasty elbows from top position. He hurt him with front kicks to the body in the second and third rounds and nearly dropped him with a jab.

The final shot was a spinning back kick to Miocic's midsection that sent him to his knees. The question that loomed in the background is would this be Jon Jones' last fight? After the way he looked he seemed to answer that question.

“I've decided maybe I will not retire," Jones said, adding that he will have conversations with UFC CEO Dana White and chief business officer Hunter Campbell. "We'll negotiate. If everything goes right, maybe we'll give you guys what you want to see."

What everyone wants to see is Jones vs Tom Aspinall (15-3) the heavyweight interim champion who has been a wrecking ball in the heavyweight division. Jones has shown zero interest in facing Aspinall, even going as far as to call him a "nobody." Jones had said he would rather vacate the heavyweight title than face Aspinall in the Octagon. In the post-fight press

“At the end of the day, if I give him the opportunity to fight me, I want to be so compensated, I’m going to say it, I want that ‘f**k you’ money, honestly. My life is perfect without him; I don’t need him at all. He needs me, and that’s a good place to be in a negotiation.”

Jones has said he would rather fight light heavyweight champion Alex Peirera. No matter who Jones fights next it's sure to be a big money affair.
