Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano fight ended in a draw
Houston, TX- Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano put on a show Saturday night, which ended in a draw.
There was a lot of hype surrounding the Charlo and Castano fight and it lived up to it. In the first half of the fight, Charlo was taking a beating and had trouble stopping Castano from hitting him with his jab. Castano used the jab to keep Charlo at bay and kept him guessing. A couple of times, Castano's jab stunned Charlo and it looked like Charlo was on the verge of being knocked down mid-way in the fight.
The tides and momentum changed in the eighth round. Charlo's trainers told him that he needed to be the aggressor and push the pace of the fight, because he was down. Charlo listened to his trainers and hit Castano with a right hook that rocked Castano. Charlo saw that he hurt Castano and hit him with everything he had, but Castano survived the round.
The next four rounds, Charlo pushed the pace and delivered some devastating punches, which kept the fight very close. At the end of the 12th round, Charlo did just enough to sway the judges. When the results came in, the judges scored it a split decision.
Charlo had this to say about the fight. “Shout out to San Antonio for coming through. The win is what I wanted to hear,” said Charlo. “I won this fight. I hurt him way more than he did to me. Castaño is a real warrior. But my power is serious at this weight division.”
“I won the fight,” said Castaño. “There were some rounds that he did hit me and he hit me hard. But I won this fight. I want to thank San Antonio. I want to thank SHOWTIME and Al Haymon for this fight. It was a great opportunity.”
Both fighters walk away with a win and a potential rematch that fans would want to see.
