The stars were out and buzzing right before the Slam Dunk competition, because the three-point contest was a beauty to see. Buddy Hield was a sniper from behind the arc and hit 31 on his first go. Dame Lillard was knocked out in the semi-finals, as he hit 18 on his second rack, which made room for a new champion this year. Tyler Herro, Hield, and Darius Garland went head-to-head to see what sniper was going to be left standing. Herro won the three-point contest as Heild came up short with 23, while Hero scored 24.

Now, while the crowd was buzzed and in high energy with the three-point contest, it was going to be very interesting to see if that crowd hung on with the same spirit, as the dunk contest was on the clock to finish out the night. The highflyer in Mac McClung was going for his third Dunk title, but newcomers in Stephon Castle, Matas Buzelis and second-year pro Andre Jackson Jr.

Before these athletes got the ball rolling with their dunks, the NBA paid homage to Vince Carter's iconic dunks in his slam dunk competition. Castle did a nice windmill and grabbed a 47 off the scorecard to start the hunger games of duking. Buzelis' attempted to do something different and throw the ball behind the basket and bounce the ball between his legs and dunk it, but after a couple of failed attempts, he scored 46. Jackson Jr. did a regular left to right dun, after attempting three missed dunks and scored a 43. Last, but not least McCung was the last dunker to dunk in the first round. McClung called game over as he jumped over a car, cleared it and dunked the ball sideways to get the crowd on its feet. He finished the first dunk with a score of 50. McClung stole the show again with another crazy dunk, meaning he was in his own lane. Before the second round started, he already won with the crowd hype and the dunks.

McClung's creativity put him ahead and he won in dominant fashion, saving the dunk contest.
