HBO Max tells the story of the unfair treatment of the USWNST
New York-Equal pay has been an ongoing battle here in the U.S. for years and the women of the U.S. Soccer team is taking a stand.
HBO Max has a new documentary premiering today highlighting the team and their fight for equal pay. The documentary will showcase in-depth coverage told by Megan Rapinoe, Jessica McDonald, Becky Sauerbrunn, Kelley O’Hara, Sam Mewis and others. The film is directed by Academy Award winners Andrea Nix Fine and Sean Fine.
Months before the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the players filed for a class-action lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation. The lawsuit has been an ongoing battle for the women to get the same pay as the men. The U.S. Soccer team won a record-breaking World Cup victory in 2019 but was still paid less than the men’s soccer team. The team has four World Cups and four Olympic Gold Medals while in 2018 the men’s team failed to qualify.
The trailer for the film has been released and it shows snippets of the women telling their stories and the women’s fight all over the United States. You get a look into the ladies' lives and why they believe they should be getting the same pay as men. The trailer also shows the uniqueness and diversity of the team.
The film displays the lawsuit pursuit which was only partially settled in 2019 with the players core arguments about equal pay being rejected and how the judge let them continue their claims about unequal working conditions in areas like team flights, hotels, venue selection and staffing support.
