Guenther and Nia Jax become King and Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia

WWE King and Queen of the Ring took place Saturday in Saudi Arabia. Guenther became the 23rd King of the Ring in history and Nia Jax became the second Queen of the Ring. The results of the King of the Ring this year had special stipulations as the winner would become the number one contender for the title at this year's Summerslam from Cleveland Browns stadium.

There were three championship contests on the six-match card Saturday, but only one title changed hands. Dominik Mysterio interjected himself into the WWE Women's World Championship match, inadvertently allowing Liv Morgan to dethrone Becky Lynch. Which in a backstage segment Lynch was seen cussing out Mysterio and saying she planned on using her rematch clause.

Logan Paul continues to show he’s a natural in the ring fighting alongside Cody Rhodes in a strong main event that saw the American Nightmare Walk out of Saudi Arabia with his Undisputed WWE Championship reign intact.

Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill def. Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae to retain their WWE Women's Tag Team Championships. . Cargill and Belair remain popular with fans and dominant forces in the ring. It was a solid exhibition match. Hartwell and LaRae continue to build themselves as legit heel characters in the women’s division. Their tactics seemed to hurt them more than help them against the most dominant womens champs we've probably ever seen.

Sami Zayn def. Bronson Reed and Chad Gable to retain the Intercontinental Championship. It was a heartfelt opener for Zayn the Syrian born champion was seen in a video package dressed in traditional clothing hugging and being celebrated by the natives. When the match started these three did a phenomenal job storytelling. Zayn remains one of the most popular champions in WWE, Gable furthered the compelling Alpha Academy storyline by berating Otis for not taking the role of a heel that Gable currently is.Reed was the breakout star of the event.

Nia Jax def. Lyra Valkyria to win the Queen of the Ring tournament. Jax will be a strong test for Bayley or whoever is WWE Women’s Champion come SummerSlam. Valkyria’s impressive run through the Queen of the Ring tournament should give her a solid push as she continues to develop on the main roster. Jax's power was too much as she did an excellent job in a character switch. She was seen hugging and crying after HHH crowned her champion. Then immediately switching back to her normal gimmick.

Gunther def. Randy Orton to win the King of the Ring Tournament. Orton and Gunther put on a classic in the King of the Ring final. Orton was able to go toe-to-toe with Gunther and the Ring General was able to showcase the threat he poses from both a physical and mental standpoint. They were able to play on Orton’s age and past injuries such as his back and knee and Guenther pinpointed on those injuries. (Drew McIntyre was named Damian Priest’s opponent for the World Heavyweight Championship at Clash at the Castle next month.)

Cody Rhodes def. Logan Paul to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship. The story of the match was Paul’s underhanded shenanigans. The build up to the match was how Paul would ditch the brass knuckles for this contest, they did come into play and factored into the finish. Rhodes continues to put on impressive main-event matches and I think everyone will admit that Paul is a terrific in-ring performer. Paul used a frog splash onto the announce table. There’s no clear direction for Rhodes moving forward, but that’ll all likely change in the very near future.
