Gervonta “Tank” Davis vs Frank Martin finalized

One of boxing’s biggest stars Gervonta “Tank” Davis (29-0, 27 KO) has finally entered the 2024 fight arena. ESPN’s Mike Coppinger announced Thursday that Davis will put his WBA lightweight belt on the line vs Frank Martin (18-0,12 KO’s). This will be Davis first fight since last April when he KO’d Ryan Garcia.

Last year was an up and down year for the champion as he beat two top fighters in a 3.5 month span in Hector Luis Garcia and Ryan Garcia. After the Ryan Garcia fight Davis had a short 44- dyas stint in jail after violating his probation. Now with Davis' legal troubles behind him, Davis is finally back and doing what he does best and that is to entertain the masses with his boxing skills.  Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) is ESPN's No. 7 lightweight. The 29-year-old trains in Dallas under the guidance of former trainer of the year Derrick James. Martin is an athletic southpaw with power. Martin is one of the better up starts in the sport. However, he has yet to prove his skills on the top level.

Martin got national attention when he last fought in July. He scored a tight unanimous-decision win over Artem Harutyunyan. Martin scored a knockdown in the 12th round to pull out the victory. Martin also owns wins over Michel Rivera and Jackson Marinez. Martin was in line to fight Shakur Stevenson last fall in his first title opportunity, but he turned down the career-high seven-figure payday. Now, Martin will receive his title shot in a much bigger fight.

Davis is one of boxing’s biggest draws coming off a $1 million-dollar PPV buyrate in his last fight. Now with PBC doing its live PPVs with Amazon Prime, Tank may set the bar for sales in his next fight which should take place in the early parts of the Summer.
