Former Tiger great Trevor Lawrence Competes in American Century Championship.
Former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence competed in the 35th annual American Century Championship golf tournament at Edgewood Golf Club in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. This was the first time in the history of the event that a former Clemson athlete had played since former Clemson baseball player Jimmy Key played the event in 2001.
In a field of 90 players, Lawrence finished tied for 44th with Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis. Ironically, Key placed 44th in 2001.
Lawrence played for the Tigers between 2018 and 20. In 2018, he led Clemson to the national championship as a true freshman. His 34-2 record as Clemson's starting quarterback is the most victories in school history. He led Clemson to the College Football Playoffs three consecutive years.
The former Tiger signal caller is now the starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. In the 2021 draft, he was selected as the first overall pick in the NFL draft. Lawrence was the youngest player in the American Century Championship this year being 24 years old.
Lawrence scored 15 points in the tournament's Stable ford scoring system on Sunday. In the first round, he had two points, in the second round he had -5 and in the last round he had 15, for a total of 12 points in 54 holes. In his final round, he made three birdies and ten pars. When he made a 20-foot putt on the ninth hole, his final hole of the day, he made a birdie. On the 15th and 17th holes, he also made birdies.
