Dawn Staley wins her 200th game as a head coach
With an 83-52 victory over Missouri to begin SEC play, the South Carolina women's basketball team picked up where it left off in 2024. This is the program's 48th consecutive SEC win, and it is an excellent start to the year of 2025 for the program. The win also marked Dawn Staley's 200th career SEC regular season victory. Four Gamecocks scored in double figures, led by MiLaysia Fulwiley's second-half scoring spree. The sophomore point guard only had three points on the board as the third quarter clock ticked down, but exploded for 12 points, three rebounds, two blocks and two assists in less than six minutes of game time to finally shake free of the Tigers.
Ashlyn Watkins finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Te-Hina scored 11 points, nine on three 3-pointers.
A tightly whistled game combined with two physical teams resulted in 49 fouls called and 52 free throw attempts. South Carolina made 25-of-32 from the free throw line having a great night from the line and Missouri struggled converting 11-of-17.
