D-Backs season ends in a heartbreaker
The New York Mets and Atlanta Braves split their doubleheader on Monday, which determined the two remaining National League wild-card spots, ultimately leaving the Arizona Diamondbacks out of the MLB postseason.
The Diamondbacks concluded the season with an 89-73 record, matching the Mets and Braves. However, they lost the head-to-head tiebreaker against both teams. Arizona was eliminated after the Braves bounced back from an 8-7 loss to the Mets in the first game, winning the second game 3-0.
Players gathered at Chase Field for a light workout and to watch the Mets-Braves doubleheader, hoping to learn their postseason fate. A celebration was planned if one team swept the doubleheader, potentially allowing the Diamondbacks to secure a wild-card spot.
