Carmelo Anthony saves the Lakers as they finally get their first win of the season
Los Angeles- Carmelo Anthony finished with 28 points in a 121-118 victory over the Memphis Grizzles
Even though it's early in the season, the Lakers were feeling the pressure to get a win. Fans have saw coaches and players exploded in just a span of two games. LA just wanted to get the monkey off their backs and finally get a w in the column. They would have to beat a young and tough Memphis Grizzles team in order to make that goal happen.
For the third consecutive game, the Lakers had to dig themselves out of a double digit deficit early on. Turnovers, bad shot selection, and getting beat down the floor in transition plagued the Lakers. LA got back into the game by getting easy baskets by using pick'n roll action, which put the Memphis in a spin cycle trying to stop it. Anthony Davis showed his tail in the first half.He was getting any shot in the paint he wanted and was effective on the defensive end with having a couple of blocked shots, which turned into transition points for the Lakers. Davis helped the Lakers with his 13 points to walk into the half with a 62-56 lead.
At the start of the second half, the Grizzles went on a 10-2 run to retake the lead. For some strange reason, the Lakers' intensity disappeared and they looked a little sluggish with getting back on defense. Carmelo Anthony kept the Lakers in the game. At one point in the half, he was 4 out of 4 from the gold strike of behind the arc. Each time LA needed a bucket, Melo was like I got your back. At the nine minute mark, Melo hit a mid-range shot, which placed him into history with being ninth in All-Time scoring.
The Lakers were clinging onto a one point lead with under .7 seconds left in regulation. Davis hit both of his free throws after he was fouled to extend their lead to three. Ja Morant had the chance to tie the game at the free throw strike, but went 2 out 3, which handed the Lakers their first win of the season.
