Breanna Stewart puts the Storm on her back in victory over the Liberty
Seattle, WA- Breanna Stewart and the Storm snaps a three game skid and pulls out a victory over the New York Liberty.
After losing a couple of games to stay in contention for the first and second seed, Seattle hoped that they could build a little optimism with pull a win out against the New York Liberty. Seattle's offense was clicking on one accord early on in the first half. Breanna Stewart, Jewell Loyd, and Sue Bird pushed the tempo of the game and got back to transitional Seattle ball. They put a lot of pressure on New York's defense with getting into their offensive set early on and not really forcing up shots.
However, Seattle let a eight point lead slip as Sabrina Ionescu started to find her stroke. Ionesca and her teammates went on a 12-4 run to take a 29-24 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second, Seattle went back to throwing the ball in the inside and capitalizing off of the mismatch. They got themselves back in the game and cut Liberty's lead to five at the end of the break, 45-40. Stewart and Mercedes Russell combined for 24 points in the first half.
The second half, the Storm struggled to find their shot. Outside of Stewart, everyone else could not buy out a bucket to save their lives. Stewart carried the team in the third quarter and was doing everything she could to keep her team in the game. The Storm went on 9-0 run to recapture the lead midway in the fourth. Stewart was hot like grease sizzling on a hot pan. She was just unstoppable and New York had no answer for her.
In a blink of an eye, the Storm went from struggling to getting easy buckets on the offensive end. Seattle had a couple of crucial steals and blocks down the stretch to break the losing curse and finally got a much needed win.
