After squeezing out a gut-wrenching win against the Washington Mystics on Saturday Seattle looked to extend their winning streak in a back to back with Washington. Seattle got out to a much better stat than the one they had on Saturday. Jewell Loyd set the tone by being the aggressor and forcing the issue of face guarding a taller defender on the defensive end. Despite the good start, Seattle had trouble stopping the mid-range shooing of the Mystics. The Mystics were shooting around 62% from the field with 14 points scored in the paint. Seattle was down 21-15 at the start of the second.
Seattle went on a 8-2 run in the first three minutes of the second to cut the Mystics' lead to one. The defense for both teams stiffened late into the quarter and shots wasn't dropping as much. Seattle walked into the half with 37-36 lead.
Loyd had a hot start at the start of the second half. She had scored seven points in a two minute span, which took a bit of pressure off of Breanna Stewart, who was struggling to find her range. At the five minute mark in the quarter, Tina Charles was hit with with her fourth foul, which changed the dynamic of the game offensively for Seattle. Without Charles in the game, Seattle had trouble stopping Washington from getting into the paint and had to dig themselves out of a seven point hole at the end of the third.
Things got interesting midway in the fourth. Seattle went on a 8--0 run to cut Washington's lead to a one point lead in a blink of an eye. Just like yesterday, the Storm found themselves in a dog dog fight with under a minute left in regulation. With under.10 seconds left in regulation and down by three, Seattle had a chance to tie the game up, but Gabby Williams back-ironed the three point attempt.
