Bills hand Kansas City first loss of season with 30-21 win

The Buffalo Bills have had an opportunity the last few years to reach a new level in the regular season by beating the Chiefs and holding a tiebreaker in case it’s needed to determine the number 1 seed in the AFC.  Kansas City came into the game with a perfect 9-0 record including a 4-0 record on the road.  The intense game in Buffalo turned out to be a regular season classic.  Buffalo jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter with a 3-yard run from James Cook with a Tyler Bass missed extra point attempt.

The Chiefs responded with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to Xavier Worthy to take a 7 to 6 lead.  Buffalo continued showing grit with a second touchdown run by James Cook extending the lead 13 to 7, but Patrick Mahomes drove the Chiefs down with 2:51 left in the first half to take a 14 to 13 lead with a 2-yard Noah Gray touchdown.  The no quit mindset helped Buffalo end the first half with a 33-yard field goal by Tyler Bass to take a 16 to 14 lead.  The third quarter was a stalemate with no scoring.

The Chiefs accumulated 6 penalties for 57 yards and will need to fix going forward if they are to remain the top in the AFC.  The Bills were extremely efficient from the red zone going 3 for 4.  Buffalo iced the game with a 26-yard touchdown run to give Buffalo a 9-point lead and more importantly two possession game.  Buffalo finished the game winning 30 to 21 and the atmosphere at Highmark Stadium went from electric to explosive.  The Bills will carry the moment into their bye week while the Chiefs will travel to Carolina for another road game against the Panthers.
