Baker Mayfield era in Tampa Bay improves to 2-0 with win against Bears

The word that comes to mind when anyone brings up Baker Mayfield in a conversation is opportunistic. The next word would be winner. There will be a stigma against Baker due to several actions and words that were said during his tenure in Cleveland and more recently in Carolina, but his stop in Los Angeles for the Rams was a breath of fresh air. Around the locker room and front office, players and coaches complimented Baker's focus and interactions with the group while the Rams were suffering an injury-filled season.

Now you may fast forward to Tampa Bay after the Tom Brady era for the Buccaneers, and you insert Baker Mayfield that understands the need to be efficient and to take care of the football and not throw interceptions. Mayfield did just that again on Sunday against the Chicago Bears completing 26 of 34 passes with 317 yards and 1 touchdown. Baker involved 7 players to have at least 1 reception that means he was spreading the football around and being extremely efficient and he himself rushed for 17 yards on 6 quarterback scrambles. The Bucs are extremely excited to see running back Rachaad White is coming into his own carrying the ball 17 times for 73 yards and 1 touchdown.

The Buccaneers defense should be praised as well for only allowing 236 total yards to the Bears. Chicago displayed a lack of ability to run the ball once again when they only rushed for 67 total yards. The Bears’ quarterback Justin Fields threw for 2 interceptions and ultimately is showing that his level of play early in the season is a key factor that the Bears’ offense is stuck in neutral and not able to compete with high powered offenses. Chicago has another difficult challenge next Sunday as they travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs. Tampa Bay faces the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, and sees this game as an opportunity to show the world how competitive they can be in the NFC.
