ANTHONY DAVIS NAMED NBA WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis has been named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Tuesday, Oct. 22, through Sunday, Oct 27. The weekly award is Davis’ sixth as a Laker and 11th overall of his career.

Davis guided the Purple and Gold to a perfect 3-0 week to tip off the season with three 30-plus point performances. During the stretch, the 31-year-old averaged a league-best 34.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 2.3 blocks as Los Angeles earned home victories over Minnesota, Phoenix and Sacramento.

To begin the week Oct. 22, Davis recorded 36 points (11-23 FG, 1-3 3FG, 13-15 FT), 16 rebounds, four assists, one steal and three blocks in a 110-103 opening-night victory over the Timberwolves, marking Davis’ 100th career 25-point, 15-rebound performance. In a 123-116 comeback victory over the Suns Oct. 25, Davis posted 35 points (11-18 FG, 13-17 FT), eight rebounds, four assists, one steal and two blocks.

Davis capped off the week by tallying 31 points (10-15 FG, 1-2 3FG, 10-13 FT), nine rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks as the Lakers took down the Kings 131-127, improving Los Angeles’ record to 3-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign. Davis joined Elgin Baylor, Kobe Bryant and Jerry West as the only Lakers players to start a season with three consecutive 30-point performances.
