Aces towers the Sky 87-59
Since the start of the season, the Aces were one of the teams projected to make a deep playoff run and could actually be the team that could repeat. Their playoff run started on Wednesday against a tough and scrappy team in the Chicago Sky, who got in the eighth seed by the skins of their teeth.
The Aces jumped all over the Sky in the first quarter as Aja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young put on a scoring clinic to go up double digits in the quarter. We know the Aces can score at will, but let's talk about their defense. Vegas was guarding the Sky at the top of the key and made it difficult for Kahleah Copper and their players to get into rhythm and be effective. Los Vegas had four steals, which contributed to six fast break points. They ended the quarter on a 12-6 run.
The pace picked up really quick in the second quarter as the Aces' lead exploded. Gray and Wilson was playing a two-woman game, scoring at will on fastbreak opportunities and blew the game wide open. From hitting their three-point shots, to making sure that they were active defensively, Vegas walked into the locker room with a huge lead at the break 53-36.
Vegas controlled the pace of the game as well as time of possession in the second half. The Aces cruised to another victory with five players in double figures. Gray was the leading scorer with 20 points.
