Aces survive turnovers to get a victory over the Wings, 79-70
Bradenton, FL- Despite turnovers, Aja Wilson pulled her team to victory over the Dallas Wings, 79-70.
Turnovers were the Achilles heel for the Aces in the first half. In the first quarter, the Aces went on a 15-2 run but turned the ball over six times, which sprung a 15-6 run by the Wings. However, Kayla McBride started to get herself going as she scored 9 points off the bench to keep the Aces afloat and extend their lead late in the second quarter.
Aja Wilson had a quiet half, as she had 8 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds. Before the end of the half, the Wings went on an 8-4 run to cut the lead to five, 42-37.
In the second half, the Aces put a lot of pressure on the Wings' guards and got them into foul trouble early on in the third quarter. Second chance points helped the Aces extend their lead to double digits, as well as superb shooting. The Aces shot around 53% from the field, while the Wings shot around 35%. In the fourth quarter, the Aces tightened their defense up as the Wings hit a couple of threes to cut the lead to single digits. Las Vegas could not contain Arike Ogunbowale, as she tried to will her team from behind. With under five minutes left in regulation, Wilson demanded the ball, as she got into the low post and scored some crucial buckets to keep the lead from slipping.
Wilson finished the game with 19 points, 3 assists, and 8 rebounds. McBride finished the game with 11 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds.
